Authorities deny that Gaddafi is seeking refuge in Burkina Faso
Rumours that deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has fled to Burkina Faso continue.
Authorities in the African nation deny that Gaddafi is seeking refuge in Burkina Faso.
“We are not aware of his presence in Burkina, and as for the direction he is taking at this moment, whether in Niger or elsewhere, we have not been informed and we have not been approached,” said Alain Edouard Traore, Communications Minister of Burkina Faso.
A convoy of some 200 armored vehicles is said to have crossed into Niger from southern Libya late Monday, possibly via Algeria. As the reports spread, so did speculation that some of the Gadhafi loyalists may be headed on to Burkina Faso, which has offered safe haven to the ousted leader, the International Media said yesterday. Libyan rebels also think that Gadhafi's son Saif al-Islam could be part of the convoy.
