Sonia Gandhi returned to New Delhi after a successful surgery
Sonia Gandhi, the president of India's ruling Congress party, returned to New Delhi Thursday morning, after undergoing a successful surgery about a month ago for an undisclosed ailment in the U.S., according to a Congress party official, the Wall Street Journal reports.
"She came back early this morning. She is doing fine," said the official.
The 64-year old Mrs. Gandhi, who stands at the head of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty which has ruled India for most of the years since the country gained independence from British rule in 1947, had been absent for almost a month. She also is chairman of the United Progressive Alliance coalition that Congress leads and which runs the government.
