Security Council chief says RF to lose 10 million workers by 2025
Russia's working-age population will probably shrink by more than 10 million people by 2025, forcing the country to attract more skilled labour from abroad, a top official said Tuesday, AFP reported.
Russia's 2010 census showed the country's population had declined by 2.2 million people to 142.9 million since the previous study in 2002.
"We expect the number of working-age people to drop by at least 10 million people between 2011 and 2025," Russia's Security Council chief Nikolai Patrushev said, according to Interfax.
"This demands new solutions and measures to attract high-skilled labour, people from the so-called middle class who can achieve modernization," Patrushev said.
