President Serzh Sargsyan meets with Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris
As part of his official visit to France, President Serzh Sargsyan met with his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday.
The French President welcoming Serzh Sargsyan noted that he is looking forward to his state visit to Armenia, with the visit’s format testifying to exclusively warm relations between the two countries.
Nicolas Sarkozy highlighted that France is a friend of Armenia and will always be by Armenia’s side. The French President hailed the reform initiated by the Armenian President in the country.
Mr. Sarkozy was pleased to say that France is the second country in the amount of investments in Armenia and will continue implementing new programs in our country.
Serzh Sargsyan expressed his thanks for the warm welcome and noted that he is happy to visit France as Armenia is marking the 20th anniversary of independence. He stressed that our country is interested in further expansion of ties with France.
“We take pride in our friendship with France and attach much importance to the close ties between our two countries,” Serzh Sargsyan said.
During the working dinner, the Armenian and French Presidents discussed cooperation on energy, infrastructure development, education, and culture. They also addressed the regional problems, in particular, the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Prior to the meeting with the French President, Serzh Sargsyan met with French National Assembly Speaker Bernard Accoyer.
The French National Assembly Speaker stressed that Armenia is among the few countries which has unique interparliamentary relations with France. Armenia has active friends in the French parliament, and so does France, according to him.
The two sides highlighted the role of interparliamentary diplomacy in strengthening ties between the two countries. They highly assessed the activities of the parliamentary friendship groups in France and Armenia, the President’s press office reported.
