Cyprus President has no intention of resigning
Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias does not consider himself to blame for the recent ammunitions blasts and does not intend to resign, The Voice of Russia reported.
An explosion on July 11 at “Evaggelos Florakis” military base killed 13 people and severely damaged the island’s main power station, resulting in serious economic difficulties.
The country is also on the verge of a political crisis. The commission of inquiry into the causes of the explosion, headed by lawyer Polis Polyviou, concluded that the responsibility for the tragedy lies with the authorities of the country and the president in particular. They took decisions regarding the storage conditions of seized Iranian munitions.
Christofias dismissed Polyviou’s findings as unsupported by witness testimonies or facts.
