The Statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro has turned 80.
The 38-meter statue of Jesus Christ spreading His hand in a gesture of blessing is visited by about one million people every year.
Hierarchs of various Christian confessions, including the Russian Orthodox Church, conduct divine liturgies near the statue.
In 2007, Christ the Redeemer was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World by the UNESCO.
The statue’s 80th anniversary will be celebrated with a eight-meter-long cake and an open-air concert.
