Every third woman in Armenia undergoes violence

The Women’s Rights Center in the first and second quarters has recorded 1340 calls by the help of the hotlines that prove that there is violence over the women’s rights in Armenia.

The organization has divided the women into two age-groups 26 – 32 and 33 – 40.

Director of the center Susanna Vardanyan told that they have been working in this sphere since 1997 and can say with confidence that this problem really exists in Armenia and it should be solved both in governmental and non-Governmental level.

According to her the center has held 3 investigations concerning the violence in 2000, 2007 and 2009. The results prove that every 3rd woman undergoes a type of violence – physical, psychological, sexual.

She also informed that the organization has 2 hotlines and if it gets 12 calls during 24 hours most of them refer women’s rights violation.
