Obama vowed to push “toughest sanctions” against Iran
President Obama vowed on Thursday to push for what he called the “toughest sanctions” against Iran, saying that the United States had strong evidence that Iranian officials were complicit in an alleged plot to kill the Saudi ambassador to the United States, the New York Times says.
Relationships between the two countries plunged to a new low this week after US officials accused elements of the Iranian government of being behind a plot to kill the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Washington and blow up the Saudi and Israeli embassies, the ABC reports.
This morning Mr Obama said the US would not take any options off the table in dealing with Iran - a phrase US officials regularly use towards Tehran and which is seen as diplomatic code for the possibility of military action.
