Quake with magnitude 6.6 struck off Indonesia
Geological agencies say a strong earthquake has hit waters off eastern Indonesia, but that there was no threat of a tsunami, usatoday.com reports.
Fearing a tsunami that never came, villagers living along coastlines ran to high ground, the Washington Post reported.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.6 struck off the Moluccas islands on Monday.
It was centered 30 miles (50 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor around 140 miles (223 kilometers) from Ternate, the capital of North Maluku province, the usatoday.com reported.
