Campinas approved recognition of Armenian Genocide
According to the MFA press and public relations department, Brazilian city of Campinas (Sao Paolo) has officially informed the Armenian Embassy in Brazil that on December 16, Mayor D. Vilagra approved the resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide, adopted earlier by the City Council.
The bill comes into force after it is ratified by the Mayor and published in the Diario Official daily on December 19. According to the document, April 24 will be included in the calendar of memorable events and will be marked every year as the “1915: Day of Commemoration of Armenian Genocide victims”.
The city of Campinas has a population of 1.2 mln. It is one of the industrial, agricultural and scientific-cultural centers of Sao Paolo and has a small Armenian community.
