Police commandos arrested 19 suspected Islamic militants
Police commandos arrested 19 suspected Islamic militants in raids on Friday in several French cities including Toulouse, where seven people were killed by an al Qaeda-inspired gunman this month, the Reuters reports.
The BBC in its turn repeats that the raids were in Toulouse, the home of gunman Mohamed Merah, and other cities.
Merah, who killed seven people in three separate attacks, was buried in Toulouse on Thursday after being killed in a shoot-out with police on 22 March.
Police have been hunting possible accomplices but sources said there was no direct link with the raids.
In this concern in an interview with the French radio station Europe 1 Friday, Sarkozy gave no details about the arrests, or of what specifically the detainees are suspected, the France 24 says.
“It's in connection with a form of Islamist radicalism,'' said Sarkozy.
