Syrian consulate in Kazakhstan in fire
Reports say a fire has caused serious damage to the Syrian consulate in Kazakhstan’s largest city Almaty, Radio Liberty reports.
A report from private Kazakh KTK television said the entire third floor of the building, which housed the consulate and its documents, was destroyed in the July 17 blaze.
The report -- which has not been confirmed by police -- said the fire is suspected of being caused by attackers who threw Molotov cocktails. The report said robbery is not suspected as a motive.
Syria’s consul in Almaty, Samir Derekh, in an interview with KTK, condemned unnamed "radical religious groups" for an attack on Syria's only diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan
