Japan is to abandon nuclear power plants
Japan’s new energy strategy will envisage complete abandonment of nuclear power plants. This is the conclusion reached by the participants in a meeting held in the office of Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, the Focus News reports.
After the Fukushima 1 NPP accident the Japanese government decided to revise its previous plans for the country’s energy development. Experts and society were offered three options – reducing the share of the nuclear power plants in the country’s energy to zero by 2030, to 15% and maintaining a level of about 20-25%.
The key ministers responsible for nuclear energy are inclined for the country to give up nuclear power plants after some time, because about 70% of the people who participated in the hearings were in favor of quitting nuclear energy.
