US threatens Iran
The United States today threatened to take the rare step of referring Iran to the United Nations Security Council if the country does not cooperate with the UN atomic agency by March, the Times of India reports.
"If by March Iran has not begun substantive cooperation with the IAEA, the United States will work with other board members to pursue appropriate board action," said Robert Wood, US envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
He said the US would in this case "urge the (IAEA) board to consider reporting this lack of progress to the UN Security Council", according to prepared remarks at a closed-door IAEA board meeting in Vienna.
