Led Zeppelin and David Letterman awarded at White House
US President Barack Obama hosted the Kennedy Centre Honours at a reception at the White House on Sunday, the Telegraph said.
"Tonight's honorees didn't just take up their crafts to make a living. They did it because they couldn't imagine living any other way," Mr Obama said.
"That passion took each of them from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of their profession. And tonight, in the People's House, we have a chance to say thank you."
Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and Jimmy Page were at the reception to hear the president praise the band.
"It's been said that a generation of young people survived teenage angst with a pair of headphones and a Zeppelin album and a generation of parents wondered what all that noise was about," Mr Obama said.
