Complaint related to HAK activists case filed to Cassation Court
An application in the case of activists of the Armenian National Congress (HAK): Tigran Arakelian, Sargis Gevorgian, Artak Karapetian, and David Kiramijian - was filed yesterday to the Cassation Court of Armenia, the defense lawyer Stepan Oskanian told the correspondent of Aysor.am. The abovementioned activists were sentenced to imprisonment terms ranging from 2 to 6 years.
In the lawyer's words, the grounds for the appeal filed to the Cassation Court are the same as those stated in the appeal to the Court of Appeals, as well as illegalities committed during the trial at the Court of Appeals. «After the trial of the Court of Appeals, the defense is convinced that there will be no changes, we simply have exercised our right. The answer will be known within a month, I think there will be no solution this year, » S. Oskanian said.
It should be reminded that according to the July 20 ruling made by Judge Gagik Poghosian of the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan's Kentron and Nork Marash administrative districts, HAK activist Tigran Arakelian got 6 years in prison, Artak Karapetian – 3 years, and Sargis Gevorgian and David Kiramijian – 2 years in prison each.
By a decision of the RA Court of Criminal Appeals, the ruling has been left unchanged.
