Agriculture minister sums up year
Today the Minister of Agriculture Sergo Karapetian summed up the year 2012. He spoke about the key braches of the agricultural sector, saying that that by the 2011 data, the sector’s output accounted for 20.2% of Armenian GDP.
Karapetian announced the National Statistical Service’s data , according to which in January-November 2012 the agricultural output amounted to 787.9 billion AMD, which exceeds the 2011 index by 8.3%.
Output of grain crops and cereals made 455.0 thousand tons, exceeding last year’s level by 3.3%, while potato production made 630.0 thousand tons, exceeding last year’s level by 13%.
The minister said that vegetable production made 849 thousand tons, grape production – 242 thousand tons. As of December 25, 2012, the country exported 32 thousand tons of fruit, grapes, potatoes, melons and gourds.
In early 2012 the livestock population increased by 27.9 thousand head, animal produce exceeded last year’s index by 3.3-3.8%.
