Mass media monitoring: Equal opportunities created for all candidates
“There was no bias against any of the presidential candidates. Equal opportunities were created for all of them,” Chairman of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardian said at the meeting with reporters today, when announcing the results of monitoring of Armenian broadcast media’s coverage of the 2013 presidential election.
He said that throughout the election campaign, Serzh Sargsyan was presented on the air more frequently as the candidate of Republican Party of Armenia, rather than the incumbent president of the country.
“Few debates took place between the candidates, one can say there was a regression in terms of debates,” Navasardian noted.
In his words, there were no debates on election programs so the public voted based on their emotions and likes and dislikes towards this or that candidate.
Nine broadcast mass media outlets were monitored in three stages, from October 1, 2012, to February 16, 2013.
