“Hraparak”: Raffi Hovannisian chooses path of velvet revolution

Tens of thousands of Armenian citizens gathered yesterday in Liberty Square of Yerevan to learn about the details of the meeting between Raffi Hovannisian and Serzh Sargsyan - the Heritage Party leader Raffi Hovannisian promised to tell them the details when he left the presidential residence, “Hraparak” daily writes.

“People were impatient to know what subjects the president and their candidate discussed and whether Serzh Sargsyan agreed to transfer power peacefully and, if not, what steps Raffi Hovannisian would take? Yet prior to R. Hovannisian’s speech, protesters heard other speeches about the situation in Armenia and the possible ways out of it.

In particular, judging from the speech of Nikol Pashinian who was one of the key figures in the 2008 national movement, it could be assumed that the movement initiated by Raffi Hovannisian will choose the path of a velvet revolution in order to avoid incidents that occurred during the March 1 events. For this reason this velvet revolution should take place first of all in people’s minds and in Liberty Square,” the daily writes.
