Container shipping rates increase between Armenia and Georgia
On 1 February 2013, Georgian Railway Company raised tariff rates for shipping of 20-foot containers by 3.5% and canceled a 0.82 discount rate for shipping of 40-foot containers.
In order to reduce the price pressure on cargo receivers and senders, South Caucasus Railway CJSC curbed in February the growth of freight rates. However, under the Agreement on the Organization of International Rail Container Transport and an agreement reached with Georgian Railway Company, in March of this year new rates were introduced in Armenia as well.
For example, the rate for a 40-foot loaded container will be $0.96 per ton-km (instead of 0.78), the rate for an empty container will be $0.48 (instead of previous 0.39).
