Hrayr Tovmasian represents Serzh Sargsyan in Constitutional Court
The Constitutional Court of Armenia today started examining the applications filed by ex-presidential candidates Raffi Hovannisian and Andrias Ghukasian who request that the two decisions on the presidential election, which were taken by Armenia’s Central Election Commission on February 25, be declared null and void.
It became known at the start of the court sitting that the incumbent President Serzh Sargsyan has been involved in the case as a third party based on his own application, but the application for his involvement as a third party says that he should be involved as a presidential candidate and not as the incumbent president.
One of Raffi Hovannisian’s representatives – lawyer Karen Mezhlumian submitted a petition against the recognition of Serzh Sargsyan as a third party as at the moment he is not a presidential candidate anymore, but as the incumbent president until April 9.
It is noteworthy that Armenian Minister of Justice Hrayr Tovmasian has appeared in the court as the authorized representative of Serzh Sargsyan.
Andrias Ghukasian submitted a petition, requesting that the minister of justice should not represent Serzh Sargsyan in the court as the latter is a state official.
In response, H. Tovmasian said that today he has appeared in court not as the minister of justice, but as a citizen with a law degree.
The court interrupted the sitting and went to the consultation room in order to discuss Andrias Ghukasian’s petition. The court took a decision to reject Ghukasian’s petition.
