Defense lawyer: No evidence of Sedrakian’s guilt produced so far

“Vardan Sedrakian has been held in custody for a month, but so far investigators have not produced any evidence ,” the ex-presidential candidate, epos expert Vardan Sedrakian’s defense lawyer Alexander Sirunian said during a meeting with reporters today.

Sirunian did not rule out that Vardan Sedrakian is subjected to political persecution, but he did not share the opinion that the candidate, who spoke arrogantly during his election campaign, is now being punished in this way.

“In addition to 12 years’ and life imprisonment, there are other forms of punishment . There is no reason why a candidate capable of receiving only 0.5% of votes should fire at another who received 1%,” the lawyer said.

According to Sirunian, there is no evidence of Sedrakian’s guilt, while Khachatur Poghosian and Samvel Harutyunian - the two men who were arrested in the case – did not testify against Sedrakian.

The lawyer said they asked a doctor to allow V. Sedrakian to undergo another medical examination of the liver.
