Iranian Armenians stage protest outside Turkish embassy
A protest in connection with the 98th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide is being held outside the Turkish embassy in Tehran, according to Mehr news agency. The protest has been organized by Iranian Armenians.
The 1915 Armenian Genocide was recognized by many states. Uruguay was the first country to recognize the Armenian Genocide in 1965. Many other countries followed suit, including Russia (in 1995), France (2001), Germany (2005), Italy (2000), the Netherlands (2004), Belgium (1998), Poland (2005), Lithuania (2005), Slovakia (2004), Sweden (2010), Switzerland (2003), Greece (1996), Cyprus (1982), Lebanon (1997), Canada (1996), Venezuela (2005), Argentina (1993), Chile (2007), and Vatican (2000). The European Parliament and the World Council of Churches recognized the Armenian Genocide. 42 of the 50 states of the USA recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide and declared April 24 Armenian Genocide Commemoration Day. The parliaments of several European countries have passed laws that criminalize denial of the Armenian Genocide. Turkey continues its policy of the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
