Sirunian: Case against Vardan Sedrakian is Brazilian TV series

“There are numerous flaws in the criminal case opened in connection with the attempted murder of Paruyr Hayrikian. First of all, the 6-volume case contains no proof of guilt, even if Khachik Poghosian fired shots, while Samvel Harutyunian organized the crime,” Vardan Sedrakian’s defense lawyer, Alexander Sirunian, said at the meeting with reporters today.

“There were several serious omissions, despite the fact that the case was investigated by professionals,” Sirunian noted. According to him, bullets fired from revolvers from a distance of 35 meters can go through boards 7.5 cm thick. The experts said the shot was fired from a one meter distance, one bullet remained lodged in Hayrikian’s shoulder, and the other bullet grazed his coat and fell to the ground, but the investigator ignored that fact, according to the defense lawyer.

“One cannot buy even a good toy gun for $1000 today. And, in general, are there any killers who promise to execute the order and to agree about everything else later?” the lawyer asked those present, adding that it is a Brazilian, rather than Armenian television series.

He said that Vardan Sedrakian has not so far given any evidence. “Our judicial system is in a sad state. I was lucky enough – no evidence was found against me, too,” the defense lawyer noted. In his opinion, even the article of the Criminal Code was incorrectly chosen.

“They opened a criminal case in connection with the attempted murder of not citizen Paryur Hayrikian, but presidential candidate Paryur Hayrikian, that is, a murder committed for political reasons,” Sirunian said.
