Ombudsman Office employees meet with David Khachatrian

Two employees of the Ombudsman Office – expert on servicemen’s problems Ms. Yeranuhi Tumaniants and lawyer of the Lori regional unit of the Ombudsman Office Aramais Melkonian met yesterday with the conscript, Private David Khachatrian, according to the press service of the Ombudsman Office.

“During our talk, Private David Khachatrian assured us that he was not subjected to torture and that the investigative body abided by the law. An agreement was reached with D. Khachatrian to provide another defense lawyer to him,” the statement of the Ombudsman Office reads.

There were reports yesterday that employees of the Defense Ministry prevented Ombudsman Office representatives from meeting with David Khachatrian kept in the investigatory isolation ward of the Vanadzor unit of the RA Military Police. In their words, the Ombudsman Office employees had no written decision. The absence of a written decision was due to the visit’s urgency and the necessity of a rapid response.
