Government not to provide financial aid to hailstorm-hit farmers
The Armenian government can provide assistance to farmers hit by recent hailstorms in Armavir province, but will not compensate them for losses, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said today, when responding to a question of parliamentary deputy Ms. Zaruhi Postanjian.
“The government can provide assistance in the form of seeds and fertilizers, but financial compensation of their losses is out of the question,” the prime minister said.
In his words, Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgian and Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetian went today to Armavir province to familiarize themselves with the existing problems. All necessary measures are being taken to estimate the scale of the damage and the sum of necessary assistance.
Hailstorm-hit farmers of Armavir province blocked again Armavir-Yerevan Highway today. They intend to walk to Yerevan and demand compensation for their losses.
