Vahram Shahinian: There are no accused in “financial pyramid case” yet
The criminal case of a financial pyramid scheme run by Armenian law enforcers was opened based on a natural person’s information, and almost immediately the Special Investigation Service of Armenia (SIS) began investigating the case. The newly-appointed Head of SIS Vahram Shahinian said this in an interview with PastInfo news agency.
In response to the question about status (in the mentioned case) of the former chief of Yerevan Police Nerses Nazarian and the chief of the Shirak regional police department Karen Babakekhian whose names are linked to the case in some press reports, Vahram Shahinian replied:
“In accordance with the principle of presumption of innocence and the ban on disclosure of information about a preliminary investigation, I will not discuss the details of the case at the moment. I can only say that no one has been so far involved in the case as an accused person. But I assure you that all persons who violated the law in this criminal case and other criminal cases will be prosecuted, regardless of the position they hold now or held in the past”.
