Sakunts: We are informed about 5% of deaths in army
The Defense Ministry does not work more transparently now, it simply can no longer control information leaks, but I should tell you that the number of deaths in the army has grown, human rights activist, Head of Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office Arthur Sakunts said live on aravot.am.
According to him, only 5% of deaths in the army become known to wide sections of the population. Sakunts gave the death of servicemen Kalian in 2012 as an example, saying that according to official information, he committed suicide.
Retired Colonel Volodya Hovhannisian objected to Sakunts, saying that the crime detection index in the army is 90%. In his words, Sakunts presents a distorted picture of the Armenian army.
Sakunts then spoke about classifying information about the army, noting that a state body financed by taxpayers’ money should work more openly and transparently so that taxpayers will know that their taxes are spent on maintaining the army, and not some generals.
