Baghramian: Electricity tariff to increase by 8 drams
The electricity tariff will increase by 8 drams as a result a review, Head of the Tariff Policy Department of the Public Services Regulatory Commission (PSRC) Garegin Baghramian said at the meeting with reporters today.
In response to the question of Aysor.am about the cause of the tariff increase, the official said that thermal power plants use Russian gas to generate about 30% of electricity in the country.
He said that the rise in electricity tariff is conditioned by a number of other factors such as an increase in the exchange rate, capital investments in the system, etc. In his words, even if there was no increase in gas tariff, the electricity tariff would be reviewed.
Baghramian said that the amount of power generated by small hydro-power stations and the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant is not very large. There are few hydro-power stations in Armenia, while the nuclear power plant has problems with the staff, their wages, and purchase of nuclear fuel.
