Seyran Ohanian agrees with demands of Karabakh war veterans
A meeting of Karabakh war veterans and Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian took place at Armenia’s Defense Ministry today, the ministry spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisian told Aysor.am.
“The meeting took place in an atmosphere of trust. The minister familiarized himself with the written demands of veterans. Their demands will be examined today and sent to the respective bodies,” the spokesman said.
In the words of Volodya Avetisian, a member of the initiative group of the NGO of Karabakh war veterans, it was a meeting with a comrade-in-arms, rather than with a minister.
“The minister agreed with our demands. Today we demand a 100% review of the pension system of war veterans and retired officers. They say there is lack of funds, but the problem has to be solved,” V. Avetisian noted, adding: “In reality, our problem is not related to the Defense Ministry. Our demand has now been submitted to the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs”.
Let us remind you that since May 10 Volodya Avetisian along with a group of veterans has been staging a protest in Liberty Square of Yerevan. They demand that the government solve rapidly a number of problems, including a review of pensions of Karabakh war veterans and retired officers. Volodya Avetisian recently set up an NGO to protect the interests of war veterans and retired officers.
