Hayk Alumian: I don’t aspire to post of head of Chamber of Advocates
“A few years ago I told my colleagues privately that I did not want and would not want to be chairman of the Chamber of Advocates,” member of the Chamber of Advocates Hayk Alumian stated during the protest staged today by some 200 advocates of the Chamber.
The current chairman of the Chamber of Advocates of Armenia is Ruben Sahakian. Elections of a new chairman will be held in the fall. According to various sources, by organizing a protest of advocates, Hayk Alumian tries to nominate himself for the post of chairman of the Chamber of Advocates.
“I like to practice law. But if a painter likes to paint, it does not mean that he seeks to become chairman of the Union of Painters. The same is true for me. And even if I regret having said that during a talk with my friends, I value my promise and I will never break it,” Alumian noted.
In his words, the advocates have disagreements about methods of their struggle. “There are no disagreements about work done by the Court of Cassation. We have the same opinion. But we have disagreements regarding one issue: how to eliminate all this lawlessness,” Alumian said.
In his words, some of the advocates proposed waiting until September, whereas others decided to take this step now because of the desperate situation and they did not attend court hearings of civil and criminal cases today. Their strike will last until June 11.
