Armenia assumes BSEC chairmanship
The 28th meeting of the foreign ministers of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSEC) took place today in Odessa, Ukraine. At the meeting Armenia assumed Chairmanship of the BSEC for six months, until December 31, 2013, the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
In his speech, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that BSEC starts the 22nd year of its activities with a new agenda of economic cooperation.
He stated that Armenia is taking active steps aimed at implementation of the BSEC’s new agenda and promotion of mutually beneficial cooperation in the region.
Armenia has initiated the second stage of the project on information technology development in the region. Preparatory work for the creation of an Association of IT Incubators of BSEC is underway.
During Armenia’s Chairmanship of BSEC, a meeting of high-ranking officials of the IT sector will be held in Yerevan in parallel with DigiTec 2013 annual expo.
As for the improvement of BSEC efficiency, Edward Nalbandian attached importance to the implementation of the documents adopted within the framework of BSEC.
He stressed that Armenia considers it important to develop economic cooperation in the Black Sea region, reform the BSEC Secretariat, and increase the organization’s efficiency and it authority in the international arena.
At the meeting, the foreign ministers of BSEC member states adopted a number of decisions on the organization’s activities.
