Decision on measure of restraint against Chakhalian to be made today
A decision will be made today regarding the measure of restraint against Armen Chakhalian, the brother of Armenian activist from Akhalkalaki Vahagn Chakhalian, the correspondent of Aysor.am was informed by Vahagn Chakhalian.
In his words, yet another man detained in the case was released yesterday, but Armen Chakhalian is still in police custody.
Asked if this circumstance is related to the political activity of Vahagn Chakhalian himself, he replied: “I suppose so”.
“My brother went to separate a fight. He was detained based on the evidence of a man who saw him in the place where the scuffle took place. He received injuries. We have information that policemen in the car hit him repeatedly in the face. He was charged with hooliganism,” Vahagan Chakhalian said. According to him, ministers were replaced in Georgia, but mid-level officials are the same.
Asked who is behind all this, Vahagn Chakhalian said he does not know concrete names, but the people who acted against him at one time have not only kept their positions, but also have been promoted.
It is noteworthy that earlier Vahagn Chakhalian made a statement in connection with the arrest of his brother Armen Chakhalian. He particularly said: ‘Everyone is equal before the law. Yet the circumstances of my brother’s arrest give cause to say that what happened was a provocation for political motives, and the authors are the Saakashvili-Merabishvili regime’s former henchmen who have kept their influence in local law enforcement agencies.
I have reason to say that by taking that provocative action, the abovementioned circles are trying to create tension between the Armenian population and the central authorities and - in an atmosphere of mutual distrust – to regain their positions which have weakened after the change of power”.
Let us remind you that on Friday, June 28, Georgian law enforcers detained Vahagn Chakhalian’s brother – Armen Chakhalain along with other participants of a scuffle in Ninotsminda. According to the source, Armen Chakhalian is accused of organizing unrest in Nonotsminda. He was arrested by masked policemen and riot policemen of Ninotsmina and Akhalkalaki.
