Beirut-Yerevan direct flights to promote economies of two countries
Armenian Minister of Diaspora Ms. Hranush Hakobian received the Lebanese delegation that is on a visit to Yerevan in connection with the launch of Beirit-Yerevan-Beirut flights by Middle East Airlines, the press service of the Ministry of Diaspora said.
Hranush Hakobian stated that the start of direct flights is a historic step in Armenian-Lebanese relations.
“In view of the regional problems, the decision of Middle East Airlines was a necessity for Armenians living in Lebanon and Syria. The launch of these flights will promote the development of the two countries’ economies, in particular tourism,” she noted.
The Chairman of Middle East Airline Mohammad Al Hout said: “The government of Lebanon has allowed our airline to operate flights in 12 directions, including to Armenia. It is great responsibility and we should work well so that everyone will be happy. I was glad that all the passengers of the inaugural flight were Armenians. They sang the national anthem of Armenia when the plane was landing. It exceeded all my expectations”.
The inaugural Beirut-Yerevan flight took place yesterday, on July 5. MEA airline will operate two flights a week, each Monday and Friday.
