Spitak mayor denies beating charges
The prosecutor’s office of Lori province opened a criminal case against Gagik Sahakian, mayor of the city of Spitak, under Article 118 of the RA Criminal Code.
The correspondent of Aysor.am was informed by the police that the criminal case was opened based on an application of Spitak resident Levik Marian who said that around 1 pm on July 9, Sahakian beat him up during an argument over domestic issues.
Spitak mayor told Aysor.am that he was not informed about a criminal case against him and, nevertheless, he was unwilling to discuss details during a preliminary investigation.
“The charges against me are unfounded. I know that man, he is a resident of our city, but I have not had any dealings with him,” the mayor said.
Asked what might make Levik Marian file an application against him to the police, Gagik Sahakian said: “He is not my relative or neighbor”. According to Spitak mayor, Marian is an unemployed person.
