Minister proposes creating apricot museum in Armenia
Armenia’s Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetian received today the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Armenia Antonio Alonzi, according to the ministry’s press service.
The minister spoke about the efficiency of six FAO agricultural programs being implemented in Armenia. He expressed hope that the project of upgrading the slaughterhouses delayed for technical reasons will be included in the program next year.
Sergo Karapetian discussed the FAO-sponsored program on preservation of apricot’s genetic resources. He proposed examining the opportunities of launching a project for using and preserving grapes’ genetic resources as well.
Mr. Alonzi thanked the minister for his reception and assured him that he is ready to assist as far as possible with FAO programs’ implementation in Armenia. In his words, he had the opportunity to visit the orchard created with their assistance and plant an apricot tree there.
Sergo Karapetian informed the FAO representative about the idea to found a museum of apricot, noting that the existence of such a museum will be symbolic in Armenia, the home of apricots.
