Drivers: We don’t know how to pay for parking lots
Paid parking lots marked with red lines appeared in Yerevan on July 10. In case of failing to pay for such parking lots, citizens were not fined – until today. Starting from today, non-payers caught on cameras will pay a fine of 5,000 AMD.
Numerous drivers have applied today to Achilles drivers’ rights NGO in connection with problems related to parking lots.
NGO chairman Edward Hovhannisian told Aysor.am that drivers don’t know how, where and when to pay. He explained that some are unable to make SMS payments because they don’t have a cellphone and a computer. When they informed City Parking Company about those problems, the reply was that they must know.
According to E. Hovhannisian, when asked about the fine of 5,000 drams, the company providing parking services said that it was set by a decision of the Yerevan Municipality and not by the law. It was also found that City Parking has data of all drivers and the data was also provided by the municipality. “An LLC has personal data of citizens, it’s a serious problem,” he noted.
The NGO chairman considered as positive the fact that now drivers know where money for parking lots goes – to the municipality and City Parking LLC.
He expressed bewilderment at the fact that fines were introduced on August 1 and not September 1 as was announced. “They don’t keep their promises”.
