Zhamanak: Osipian welcomes protests, but only within law
A scuffle broke out yesterday between police and protesters who have held a sit-in outside the Yerevan Municipality for 7 days when protesters tried to pitch a tent, ‘Zhamanak’ writes.
When asked by the daily’s correspondent why he overreacts to attempts to pitch a tent (which also happened during protests in Mashtots Public Garden), the Deputy Chief of Yerevan Police Valery Osipian said: “ Imagine what would happen if everyone decided to put a fridge in front of their shop or an entrance to a building in the city center. They must apply to the respective authorized body within the law”.
Osipian said at the same time that he welcomes the protest action. “Activists can stage protests anytime, but they must act within the law,” he noted.
