Aravot: Rallies and resignation demands are archaic method of struggle
The editor of ‘Aravot’ paper Aram Abrahamian writes: “The Yerevan municipality’s ‘smart’ persons who are also owners of bus lines have decided to make extra money by raising transport fares to 150 drams. I don’t pay this sum and it is not a violation of the law. To tell the truth, I think I may not pay 100 drams as well as there is no document (for example, a cash register receipt) confirming that I bought the service for 100, 50 or at least 1 dram.
Not using public transport and transporting passengers in private vehicles would be an efficient means of depriving greedy officials (bus line owners) of their incomes. Again, I am free to decide whether or not to use this form of transport.
I think the struggle (not only in this field) should continue in another direction. No doubt, youths have richer imagination than I. Rallies, demands for resignation of this or that official are probably an old-fashioned, archaic method of struggle. Or rather, they are an aid to the main actions aimed to hit home. By the way, the municipality has found a new method of making money: paid parking lots have appeared almost everywhere in the city center”.
