Germany, US to sign deal ruling out mutual espionage
Germany and the United States intend to sign an agreement that would prevent the possibility of mutual espionage. This was stated by the Chief of Staff of the German Chancellery Ronald Pofalla emerging from confidential hearings by a parliamentary committee to investigate the scandal surrounding electronic surveillance, according to Voice of Russia.
"The NSA and the British Intelligence agency have assured us they uphold German law in Germany,” Pofalla said.
He stressed that the anti-spy negotiations were initiated by Washington. Meanwhile, the opposition has hastened to point to the US initiative as "indirect admission" of surveillance operations conducted in Europe.
On Sunday, the weekly Der Spiegel reported that Germany is one of the priority targets for US intelligence.
