Freddy Rincón injured in traffic accident

The ex-midfielder for the Colombian national team and Real Madrid of Spain, Freddy Rincón, suffered multiple injuries on Saturday in a car accident that left him hospitalized, AFP reported. 

Rincón, 47, rolled his truck as he was driving on a wet road between the towns of Buga and Tulua in the department of Valle (southwest), police said.

The former player was rescued by members of the Civil Defense, who took him conscious to the San José hospital in Buga.

A medical report issued late Saturday said that the player suffered a "moderate head trauma, a wound in the head with deep bleeding, a fractured left shoulder, pelvic trauma and foot injuries."

"He was taken to surgery where the patient was assessed and stabilized. He is currently in the intensive care unit," the report added.

Rincón played with Colombia at the 1990 Italian World Cup, the 1994 United States WC and in France in 1998. In the Italian World Cup he scored a goal against Germany, who went on to win the tournament, that gave the Colombians a 1-1 tie.

In his career he also played for Real Madrid (1995-1996), Napoli in Italy and Brazilian team Palmeiras, Corinthians and Cruzeiro.
