Expert: Clashes in Georgian village of Chela are result of provocation
“In all likelihood, the clashes between residents of the village of Chela in Samtskhe-Javakheti region and Georgian policemen are the result of provocation”, Alik Eroyants, an expert on Georgia, told Aysor.am when commenting on the incident that took place during the dismantlement of a minaret in Chela.
“Most likely, all this was organized by some forces that are opposed to the current authorities and try by all means to destabilize the situation in the country and show that the authorities are not able to keep the situation under control,” he noted.
In the words of Alik Eroyants, tensions will be growing with the approach of the presidential elections to be held in Georgia in October.
“In general, there has always been a negative attitude to minorities in Georgia. Several cases have been recorded in recent months as well,” he said.
