Armenia plans to export mutton to Iran and Arab countries
There are currently 650-680 thousand sheep in Armenia. Their number increased by 10-15% on last year. Armenia’s pastures will allow tripling the number of sheep. In the Soviet time, Armenia had about 1.5 million head of sheep, Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetian said at a meeting with journalists today.
According to him, Armenia can export 250-280 thousand head of sheep annually, while two slaughterhouses in Syunik and Kotayk provinces will enable to organize the export of mutton.
The slaughterhouse to be put into operation soon in Zoravan community of Kotayk province will allow slaughtering 600 head of small cattle daily. It is planned to export mutton to Iran and Arab countries.
