Haykakan Zhamanak: Carrefour to operate at Yerevan Mall Center

Construction of Yerevan Mall shopping and entertainment center is underway on Arshakuniants Avenue in Yerevan. The center’s opening is scheduled for October. The names of the center’s owners are not officially announced, but rumors have being circulating that Yerevan Mall is owned by Chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee (SRC) Gagik Khachatrian and Director of Keramika OJSC Norayr Khachatrian, according to ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily.

“The press service of SRC yesterday refuted this information, saying that the head of SRC and his relatives have nothing to do with Yerevan Mall center. In Armenia such refutations do not mean anything,” the paper writes.

Carrefour hypermarket is expected to operate at Yerevan Mall Center.

Despite the fact that until now there has been no official information about Carrefour’s entrance into the Armenian market, rumors persist in business circles that the famous hypermarket chain will enter Armenian market and operate at Yerevan Mall Center.

“In private talks, Carrefour’s ‘Odyssey’s is explained the following way: the head of the State Revenue Committee didn’t allow Carrefour hypermarket to open at Dalma Garden Mall. Now he has ensured that the hypermarket will operate at Yerevan Mall Center where an area of 6,000 square meters was allocated for it,” the daily notes.
