Armen Chakhalian set free in court
A court sitting in Armen Chakhalian’s case was held today. The court took a decision to impose a fine of 2,000 lari on Chakhalian and sentence him to 4 years’ imprisonment conditionally, Armen Chakhalian’s brother – Vahagn Chakhalian told Aysor.am.
In his words, Armen feels well and they have not decided yet whether to appeal against the court decision or not.
Georgian law enforcers detained Armen Chakhalian along with other men involved in a scuffle in Ninotsminda on June 28 of this year. According to other sources, Armen was accused of organizing unrest in Ninotsminda.
During a talk with the correspondent of Aysor.am, Vahagn Chakhalian said earlier that yet another detainee was released, but Armen Chakhalian was still in custody. Asked if that circumstance was related to political activity of Vahagn himself, he replied, “I suppose so”.
“My brother went to separate the fighting men, but he was detained based on evidence of a man who saw him there. He received injuries, and we were informed that policemen hit him in the face several times in the police van. He was charged with hooliganism, but it was not true,” Vahagn Chakhalian noted.
