Haykakan Zhamanak: ANPP life span may be extended
‘Haykakan Zhamanak ‘ says that one of the issues on the agenda of today’s session of the Armenian government is related to extension of the lifespan of the operating unit of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, which will be done jointly with RosAtom Company, Russia.
According to the daily, the fact is that earlier the service life of the power unit was extended until September 2016. The ANPP safety has been raised with technical and financial assistance of Western countries on condition that the power unit should be decommissioned in 2016.
“The decision was made taking into account the fact that a new nuclear power plant will be constructed in Armenia by that time. The inclusion of such an issue in the government session agenda means it has been decided to extend the current power unit’s operation instead of building a new nuclear power plant,” the paper writes.
