Retired Colonel Volodya Avetisian detained on suspicion of fraud

During the investigation into a criminal case investigated by the RA Defense Ministry’s Investigation Service, retired Colonel Volodya Avetisian was detained on September 20, 2013, on suspicion of committing the crime indicated in the Criminal Code’s Article 178 part 2 point 2 (serious fraud), the press service of Defense Ministry said.

According to the source, V. Avetisian took $2,000 from citizen Zakarian under the pretext of helping with his grandson’s exemption from military service.

A preliminary investigation into the criminal case is being conducted.

Let us remind you that a group of Karabakh war veterans, including Volodya Avetisian, started a sit-in in Yerevan’s Liberty Square in May of this year, demanding solution of their social problems. Avetisian took part twice in meetings of Karabakh war veterans with Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. Adter the last meeting in the government office, V. Avetisian said that the problems of veterans have not been solved.
