Kostanian: Change in political situation shouldn’t affect justice
A change in the political situation should not affect justice in any way, the candidate for the post of Armenia’s Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanian said in the parliament today.
In his opinion, justice should be above political, party and other phenomena.
Deputy of Armenian National Congress (HAK) faction Lyudmila Sargsyan told Gevorg Kostanian that the public is discontented with his activities as military prosecutor. She gave the example of the ‘buffalo meat’ case.
‘Many issues worrying society have not been examined by you. Although you will be appointed prosecutor general as a result of the vote of the parliamentary majority, it does not mean that all the parliamentary factions are in favor of your appointment,” she said.
In response, Gevorg Kostanian noted that the ‘buffalo meat case’ was a just fraud, in which buffalo meat was supplied to the army instead of beef. He assured those present that all persons involved in the case will be called to account.
We would remind you that in June 2012, a criminal case was opened under Article 178 part 3 point 1 (fraud) of the Criminal Code after violations were discovered in a food depot of the army during checks. Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian armed forces Arshaluys Paytian was dismissed at the time.
