Court postpones hearing of Zaruhi Postanjian’s complaint
The court of general jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative districts in Yerevan decided today to postpone the hearing of the complaint filed by Ms. Zaruhi Postanjian, deputy of Heritage parliamentary faction.
According to PastInfo news agency, Z. Postanjian asked the court to cancel the decision of the investigator of the Central unit of the Armenian police about refusal to open a criminal case concerning the Closed Market in Yerevan. She also asked the court to open a criminal case against the market’s developer who ‘destroyed the Closed Market’ and Yerevan Mayor Taron Margarian. In the plaintiff’s words, they committed a violation indicated in the Criminal Code’s Article 264 (destruction or damage of historic and cultural monuments). Besides, violations were committed under Article 315 prime 1 (failure to stop unauthorized construction of a building) and Article 315 prime 2 (failure to take legal measures to stop or prevent unauthorized construction), the plaintiff said. In her opinion, law enforcements bodies were inactive, refusing to open a criminal case.
Hermine Mikaelian, who is involved as a representative of plaintiff Z. Postanjian, filed a petition to the court to give her two working days for becoming acquainted with the materials of the case. The court said it was the second hearing, during which the materials were at their disposal so they “should have condescended to come and become acquainted with materials”.
In response, Z. Postanjian’s representative said they have no intention to protract the examination of the case. The prosecutor representing the defendant considered those assurances unconvincing, but Postanjian’s representative insisted on their petition. The court granted the petition and gave the plaintiff a week.
