Public Council’s sub-commission decides to apply to Culture Ministry
Sub-commission on Cultural Affairs of Armenia’s Public Council is opposed to the demolition of the old building of Yerevan’s Zvartnots Airport. At the sitting held today, a decision was taken to request the expert commission of Armenian Ministry of Culture to include the old building of Zvartnots Airport in the list of monuments protected by the state.
During the sitting, architect Anahit Tarkhanian made a proposal to use the airport for domestic flights as well as flights to Customs Union member states. She expressed confidence that there will be people prepared to lease and use the building worth $100 million.
Director of Service for the Protection of Historic Culture Preserves and Historic Environment state non-profit organization Vladimir Poghosian made a speech. He also proposed applying to Culture Ministry.
Let us remind you that the management of Armenia International Airports CJSC asked the Yerevan Municipality to pull down the old (round) building of Zvartnots Airport, citing its damaged structures as a reason. The Urban Development Council of Yerevan Municipality unanimously rejected the request.
